After having to pretend to Rock out to Teeny Boppers Simple Plan and Michelle Branch. The long awaited New York band came out onto the stage. After Being Announced, they proceed to their instruments and explode into Obstacle 1... The Mood was spell-binding (for me especially), as I had no Idea what song was to be played, I really didn't care for that matter, but as my 3 Piece garage band had practiced covering Obstacle 1 earlier in the day, it was an extra special treat to hear the boys do the real thing. Well, during the song I could hear an off-sounding chord being hit, but I figured since they kept playing I must've been wrong... Surely enough after ending the song, what seemed like producers walked onto the stage and began talking with the band, seconds later we (the audience) were informed they were going to do it again. Bring it on! I shouted at this point. During the second take, Carlos's Strap rips off his Bass and when the song was over, they were to do it again. During the start of the Third Take, Paul seemed a bit discouraged, you could sense he was either frustrated or Nervous. Half-way through the third take Paul stops strumming and Singing and begins to flap his arms in the air, the band quickly recognizes this and stops with him.

On the Fourth and Final Take, everything seemed to be together and they plunge into the song again...by this time most of the audience (at least near me) were making cracks on how a song can only be tolerated for so long...I on the other hand was hoping something else would go wrong so they'd do it again.. Each Take was like heaven. But of course the Fourth take proved to be unflawed and the band was to leave the stage. Thus ending the good part of the show and the start of more Fake Yips and Yelps From me.

There isn’t much to say about Interpol’s performance on WB’s Pepsi Smash.  The whole concept of the show was to show 5 bands in a small studio that would hold 500 people.  I imagine they split up the tickets at 100 for each band.  That alone was worth going.   Scheduled to perform, on top of Interpol, was Simple Plan, Michelle Branch, Chingy and Godsmack.

I had a ticket myself but it was as a guest with my sister.  Well, she was running really late.  So when I get to the check in line, I somehow manage to get a ticket.  All I was doing was asking questions about transportation and final bus times and someone must have assumed I had already checked in.  So I board the bus and take of for the studio where the taping is to be held.  There’s already a huge crowd split into 5 or 6 sections.

They put us in our place and I’m off to the left side of one of the stage, where Interpol will play.   It seems that Interpol will be the one emerging act.  I couldn’t really hear what the host, Alyson Hannigan, said throughout most of the introductions.  Well after 2 songs from Simple Plan and another 3 from Michelle Branch, Interpol comes out.  They are scheduled to play only one song.  That didn’t seem right, but it was a free show, so I guess I couldn’t complain.

Obstacle 1 is the song they performed and much of the sound was off.  They ended up playing (or recording it) 3 times (on top of the one sound check they did in the middle).  It was a shortened version of Obstacle 1, missing the lines from “Its in the things she puts in my hair” until after “She puts the weights into my little heart”.  But no complains from me.

Its just sad we had to put on a TV game face for the rest of the bands.  I don’t really hate any of the other ones but Interpol was definitely worth it.
